👍  What we loved about them

Cares immensely about quality – He alluded to us that if a video doesn't make him happy, he doesn't consider it good enough even if everyone else is fine with it. That internal drive to meet his own standards rather than just ticking boxes was impressive to see.

He learns by studying the best – Watches how top creators (in India) like Raj Shamani and Jay Shetty approach podcast editing, analyzing their text style, sound effects, music and flow to understand what makes content work. He actively tries to reverse-engineer the editing process to match the level of quality.

He understands platform attention dynamics – Articulated clearly that Instagram gives you 2-3 seconds to grab attention and requires constant engagement hooks, whilst YouTube allows slightly longer. He's understands how user behaviour differs across platforms.

• Longevity in current role – Rather than job-hopping every year, he's been committed to growing with the company until he genuinely felt he'd learned what he could. Within the video editing space, it's typically rare to see this form of stability and longevity in a role.

👩‍💻  Technical interview performance

Objective

This candidate was invited to a 60-minute follow-up interview to assess their technical capabilities in more detail. During this interview, we assessed their critical-thinking skills, technical expertise, and overall conversational skills.

Technical abilities

• Technical editing proficiency [7.5/10] – Prateek demonstrates competent use of Premiere Pro, which is his primary editing tool and where he's built the most experience over 3.5 years. His portfolio shows variety across different content types, including landscape podcasts, vertical reels, mini-vlogs and event coverage, indicating he can adapt to different formats and aspect ratios. He's also familiar with Photoshop and Illustrator for supporting design work, which helps when creating graphics or animations within his edits.

• Strategy and approach [6.5/10] – Prateek shows basic strategic thinking when approached with the hypothetical new client scenario, mentioning he'd research the brand, study competitors, understand existing content and brand image, and determine whether it's a premium/basic brand. When asked about metrics he cares about, he focused on "staying authentic to brand image" and "delivering the message" rather than specific performance indicators.

• Ownership and collaboration [8/10] – Prateek demonstrates solid ownership of his work, with a personal quality standard that exceeds his company's expectations. He's worked with content strategists and social media managers who provide briefs, indicating experience collaborating with other functions, and he handles both pre-production and post-production responsibilities, showing versatility. Over his 3 years at Social Samosa, he's proactively helped the company expand their content production, suggesting initiative and leadership beyond just executing assigned tasks.

• Platform-specific content understanding & trend awareness [7.5/10] – Prateek demonstrates a good understanding of platform differences, articulating that short-form content on Instagram and Facebook requires grabbing attention within 2-3 seconds, whilst YouTube allows 6-7 seconds. He recognizes that Instagram demands constant attention-grabbing throughout the video (every few seconds), whilst YouTube viewers might give you 10-12 seconds between engagement moments. His approach to staying current involves watching top creators like Raj Shamani and Jay Shetty to understand podcast editing styles, and he learns by studying how competitors approach similar content.

• Speed and volume management [7.5/10] – Prateek has managed multiple channels and content types over his 3 years at Social Samosa, handling work across advertising case studies, content creator collaborations, podcasts and event coverage. He's responsible for both pre-production and post-production, showing he can manage complete project lifecycles. His portfolio demonstrates versatility across different formats (landscape podcasts, vertical reels, mini-vlogs), indicating he can adapt to varying project requirements.

Areas of growth

• Currently, his After Effects knowledge is theoretical rather than practical, so dedicating focused time to creating motion-heavy projects would help bridge this gap.

• We feel he needs to shift mindset from "making content that looks good" to "making content that performs," which requires integrating data into every creative decision.
